Pure Motion Driver™: Crisp and Clear Sound Quality
The ATH-TWX9MK2 features a composite diaphragm structure that balances rigidity and flexibility to optimize acoustic performance. The center dome uses a high-rigidity diaphragm with a beryllium coating, delivering enhanced clarity in the high-frequency range. Surrounding it, the sub dome is made from high-elasticity polyurethane (PU), enriching and deepening the low-frequency response.

The ATH-TWX9MK2 features an external magnetic circuit system that provides a more uniform magnetic field than conventional internal magnet designs. This configuration enlarges the diaphragm’s effective surface area, allowing the compact driver to produce powerful sound pressure and dynamic expression. A thin stainless-steel plate secures the diaphragm, further boosting driver efficiency and sonic density.
Unlike traditional voice coils that apply tension directly to the diaphragm—potentially introducing mechanical noise and distortion—the ATH-TWX9MK2 adopts a floating voice coil design. This minimizes structural stress and interference, resulting in highly accurate and pure sound reproduction. The benefits are especially notable in vocal playback and complex instrumental passages.
To further refine sound quality and noise-cancelling performance, the ATH-TWX9MK2 incorporate a high-precision acoustic mesh from Sefar, a Swiss manufacturer of technical fabrics. This metallic mesh regulates airflow and internal pressure within the driver, helping to balance tonal output and deliver a more stable noise-cancelling effect.
Hybrid digital noise-cancelling technology for a personalized sense of silence
Building on the highly praised noise-cancelling performance of the previous model, the new ATH-TWX9MK2 offers superior noise-cancelling with upgraded noise-detection MEMS microphones and improved driver performance. Each earbud features two advanced noise-detection MEMS microphones,* delivering a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) critical for noise-cancelling performance. These microphones capture ambient noise in greater detail and send it to a high-precision noise-cancelling processor. The high-sensitivity drivers then generate precise anti-noise sound waves that effectively cancel even the faintest background sounds.

The ATH-TWX9MK2 features personalized noise-cancelling that adapts to the user’s ear shape and fit. Once the earbuds are worn, a test tone is emitted and analysed by built-in microphones to assess the ear canal contour and surrounding acoustic environment. Based on this analysis, the system automatically applies optimized noise-cancelling parameters to ensure consistent performance, regardless of ear type or wearing style.

In this system, the headphones measure the noise level of the surrounding environment, based on which the system automatically sets the optimal level of noise cancelling.

The built-in microphone captures environmental sounds so users can remain aware of their surroundings during use. The hear-through function is useful for listening to music while walking, doing housework, working remotely, or using public transportation. The comfortable fit ensures a natural experience when using the hear-through function.

This function improves audio in hear-through mode, even for everyday conversations. As the microphone captures environmental sounds, the noise-cancelling function reduces the muffled sound experienced when talking with others while your ears are covered (such as by headphones). This means that not only are environmental sounds reproduced naturally, but conversations are also clearer with less muffling of your own voice even when wearing the headphones.
- Quick Hear-Through for clear transmission of surrounding sounds
The quick hear-through function is perfect for tuning in or out of your surroundings by allowing you to hear announcements or listen to those around you. This single-action function instantly lowers playback volume* and captures ambient sounds while enhancing the vocal bandwidth.

Just like with music playback, the ambience control functions can also be used during calls. You can freely switch between the three available modes to suit different environments and situations:
- Noise-Cancelling Mode: Ideal for important meetings or private conversations where you need to concentrate on the other person’s voice. This mode reduces background noise to create a quieter, more focused call environment.
- Hear-Through Mode: Perfect for casual conversations with family or friends. This mode lets in ambient sound, making the call feel more natural—like you're speaking face to face.
- Off: You can also choose to turn off both noise-cancelling and hear-through functions to conserve battery or match your personal preference.
- Sidetone function
Wearing headphones makes hearing your own voice difficult. The sidetone function allows you to hear your own voice during calls for more natural-sounding conversations, almost as if you weren’t wearing headphones at all. This can prevent you from talking louder than needed—a common problem during calls.

Deep-UV light sterilization of bacteria and viruses*1
Every time the headphones are placed in the charging case, the deep-UV LED sterilization system eliminates bacteria and viruses from headphone surfaces. The deep-UV LED sterilization system eliminates bacteria and viruses on the surface of the headphones in about 70 seconds inside the case. Mirrors*2 are used to distribute the light evenly for increased effectiveness*3.

- Headphone tracking
The last location where the headphones were disconnected from your Bluetooth® device is displayed on a map in the Connect app. You can explore possible locations where you may have misplaced your headphones.
- Equalizer
Provides five preset EQ modes and a customizable 5-band EQ for personalized sound tuning.
- Adjustable volume steps
Easily fine-tune the volume adjustment level in the Connect app to get the perfect listening comfort for your ears. Use the app to change the adjustment steps from 16 (default) to 32 or 64 steps for more fine-grained control.
- Left/right balance adjustment
You can adjust the balance of the volume emitted from the left and right sides of the headphones.
- Adjustable button assignments for unique operation patterns
Select a user-friendly operation pattern that best suits your preferences and usage from the Connect app. Available patterns include music priority and reversed left/right options.
- Adjustable touch sensor sensitivity
Touch sensor operation can be affected by the season, weather, or amount of moisture or dirt on your fingers. This function—configurable using the Connect app—helps improve operation by adjusting the sensitivity of the sensor.

The charging case is compatible with wireless chargers (sold separately) for easy place-and-go charging. When the battery gets low, simply place the charging case on a wireless charger, or charge it using the included USB Type-C™️ cable.
